“CES 2019 Automotive Innovation Report”
The CES 2019 was again a record-breaking event. With more than 188.000 attendees, over 4500 exhibitors incl. 1200 start-ups at Eureka Park and 2,9 Mio. square net feet of exhibition space in 11 official venues, CES is still the world biggest show. And as CES grows, also the exhibition space for automotive innovations grows.
Besides world premieres of series vehicles like the Mercedes CLA and the Nissan Leaf e+, Byton presented its M-Byte Concept which corresponds to 85% to the series vehicle that will be launched end of 2019.
In order to declutter the historically grown vehicle electronics architecture, to allow updates and upgrades of vehicle functions and features over lifetime, and to generate new business models, new vehicle electronics architectures as well as new domain controllers for autonomous driving and infotainment were shown at CES 2019 by Aptiv, NXP, ZF, NVIDIA, and Visteon, to only name some of them.
In order to generate recurring revenue streams and to stay in touch with their customers, Audi and HERE proposed payable functions on-demand, available for user subscription through apps.
New ecosystems will be originated by Mobility Pods with electric driving platforms and variable and customizable cabins for transport of persons and goods that companies like Panasonic, Schaeffler, AEV Robotics and Yamaha have displayed during CES 2019.
While the legal framework for Level 4 and 5 autonomous driving is not yet in place, L2+ driving automation functions to support drivers in their manual driving tasks were presented by Toyota and Mobileye. These systems use ADAS and AV sensors already integrated in today's vehicles and combine data with driver monitoring data. By initiating automated driving maneuvers in critical situations, the vision of zero accidents in the immediate future seems achievable.
Given the fact that time is valued by vehicle users as one of the most precious goods, the in-vehicle user experience is gaining importance. From well-being-on-board over gaming to productive use of time while driving, solutions and new technologies were demoed during the show by Kia, Toyota, Audi and others.
